AI POLICY

I believe people have a right to know if generative AI has been used in content they consume, and to avoid such content if they choose. In the interest of putting my money where my mouth is, here’s what you can expect from me and my work.

My books are and have always been written solely by me. I do not use generative AI when writing my books, or for idea generation, plotting, or character development. I also do not use generative AI for substantial editing. I do use Grammarly to catch typos and grammatical errors (that said, I went to Catholic school, so there aren’t many of those).

I do not use generative AI to write long-form content for Substack or LinkedIn, or for blog posts, past or present.

I do use AI tools in limited areas of my author business. At the moment, those uses include…

…Image generation for some book covers and promotional content. All AI-generated images are heavily edited by me. The final concepts and designs are my own.

…Book blurbs and back cover copy. These are created collaboratively, and are also heavily edited by me.

…Metadata/positioning on ebook distribution platforms.

…Book launch planning.

…Marketing strategy.

I don’t believe we can currently predict the longterm effects of this technology, and I will stay informed as the landscape continues to evolve. I’m committed to remaining measured and transparent in how I use these tools, and to giving readers the appropriate information to make informed decisions about my work.
